VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- Senior Supply Corps leadership, including flag officers and captains, discussed the critical role the Navy Supply Corps plays in supporting the nation's Maritime Strategy during a conference April 28-30.
The major topics discussed were the Supply Corps' Strategic Vision Study, Global Logistics Support execution, and the Navy's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Release 1.1 Single Supply Solution. ERP is a business management system that will allow the Navy and Naval Supply Systems Commandto unify, standardize, and streamline supply functions into a single, secure, reliable and accessible system.
"We are a nation at war and every supply officer plays a key role in the fight. Our Supply Corps mission to support our Navy and its warfighters has never been more critical," said Rear Adm. Mike Lyden, 45th Chief of Supply Corps and Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP). "This symposium is crucial for us to meet face-to-face and plan how we should best align ourselves to meet the needs of the warfighter and to support CNO's Maritime Strategy."
Vice Adm. Alan Thompson, director, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), provided an update on DLA and Navy's implementation of ERP.
"It's essential that we replace the legacy systems that the supply system is running on and this [Single Supply Solution] is the answer," said Thompson. "Collectively we can make sure the Navy is successful by being engaged, aware, and sharing information."
"I'm impressed with what you've done for our Navy," said keynote speaker Vice Adm. Mark Ferguson, chief of Naval Personnel, about the Supply Corps. "The tone of the force is extraordinarily positive. Sailors and their families express satisfaction in your leadership, and that is a great tribute to you and the leadership across the Navy."
Lyden said the conference provided an opportunity for senior leadership in the Navy Supply Corps to share ideas and discuss issues.
"We made a lot of progress in better defining our path ahead," Lyden added.
