From Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast Public Affairs Officer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $43.1 million indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract for various types of paving on board Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga. on April 15 to EJS Contracting, Inc. [an 8(a) company] out of Albany, Ga.

"Maintenance Center Albany uses concrete roads in and around the facility to ferry combat vehicles," said Lt. Cmdr. Marc Rouleau, Public Works officer, resident officer in charge of construction Albany. "These roads, over the last few years, have succumbed to the massive loads of these vehicles and this contract will satisfy the high demand for this road repair work."

The work performed for this contract provides for various paving projects and the work will be ordered on individual task orders (ranging from $2,000 to $2 million) placed against the contract.

Work is scheduled to begin immediately and is expected to be completed by April 2014.

It is the policy of the government to provide maximum practicable opportunities in its acquisitions to small business concerns.

"This award demonstrates our commitment to this policy while providing best acquisition solutions to meet our clients needs," said NAVFAC Southeast Deputy for Small Business, Nelson Smith.

Maximum practicable utilization of small business concerns is a matter of national interest with both social and economic benefits. America's 27 million small businesses employ more that 58 percent of the private work force, generate more than 51 percent of the nation's gross domestic product and are the principal source of new jobs.
