IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
New Delhi, April 29, IRNA -- Indian forces are on alert to prevent any infiltration bid by Tamil Tiger cadres fleeing the military offensive against them in Sri Lanka.
"Army troops along with the Navy and Coast Guard are on alert along the southern coastline to prevent Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres from entering Indian territory," Army Vice Chief Lieutenant General Noble Thamburaj told reporters in New Delhi, Wednesday.
"The Coast Guard and the Indian Navy form the first tier (of defense). We have some troops deployed to ensure LTTE don't enter Tamil Nadu," he said while speaking on the sidelines of a seminar on 'Combating Climate Change by Management of Ozone Depleting Substance'.
"As of now, there are no reports of any bid by LTTE to enter," Lt. Gen. Thamburaj added.
After the Sri Lankan armed forces confined LTTE to a small area, there were reports of possibility of the LTTE cadres trying to infiltrate into India.
