Iranian guard killed in Afghan province of Nimruz

Kabul, April 23, IRNA – An Iranian border guard was shot dead and another was injured on Wednesday night by the fire of Afghanistan's border guards in Nimruz Province, southwestern Afghanistan, an imformed source told IRNA in Kabul.

The shootings took place while the Afghan guards were patrolling border ares, said the source speaking on condition of anonymity.

the source added that Afghanistan’s Interior Minister Hanif Atmar expressed sympathy for the incident in a telephone conversation on Wednesday night with Iran's Ambassador to Afghanistan Fada-Hossein Maleki.

Extending Kabul's sympathy to the families of the victim, Atmar said the Afghan border officers have not realized that the Iranian guards were present in the area.

Iranian and Afghan officials are investigating the case.
