LTTE accuses Lankan forces of killing 1,000 civilians

New Delhi, April 21, IRNA -- Tamil Tigers have accused Sri Lankan forces of killing 1,000 civilians and injuring 2,300 in a fresh fighting and said the government troops were using Tamil civilians as 'shield' in their offensive.
While making no comment on the Sri Lankan president's ultimatum to them to surrender, a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) top leader S Puleedevan charged that Sri Lankan troops were using Tamilians to advance on two fronts at Valaignar-madam and at Maaththa'lan, PTI reported.
LTTE leader told the Tamilnet that government forces were using cluster shells, napalm and phosphorus munitions which was internationally banned in the offensive.
"Over 1000 civilians were killed and near 2,300 civilians were injured in yesterday's fighting," LTTE said in a statement.
