ALGIERS, Algeria (NNS) -- USS Robert G. Bradley (FFG 49) arrived in Algiers April 18 for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening the maritime partnership between the U.S. and Algeria.
During the visit, the ship's crew will have a chance to host various Algerian officials aboard, as well as be hosted by their Algerian Navy counterparts. The two sides will discuss ways of improving training and interoperability between the two navies, to include the upcoming multilateral exercise, Phoenix Express 2009.
"The Sailors of USS Robert G. Bradley are very excited to be here. We've circumnavigated the African continent on this deployment, and we've had the opportunity to meet and interact with many of our partners in Africa," said Cmdr. Clinton Carroll, Robert G. Bradley's commanding officer. "This visit to Algeria is a great chance to continue our longstanding Naval partnership with the Algerian Navy."
In addition to meeting their counterparts in the Algerian military, Bradley Sailors look forward to visiting some of Algiers' local cultural sites during their stay.
The USS Robert G. Bradley is an Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate, homeported in Mayport, Fla. The ship is on a regularly scheduled deployment to the 6th Fleet area of responsibility in support of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa. The ship has been on deployment since November of last year.
