BAR, Montenegro (NNS) -- Commander U.S. Naval Forces Europe hosted the president of Montenegro and senior officials aboard USS Klakring (FFG 42) during a brief port visit to the Adriatic nation April 14.

Adm. Mark P. Fitzgerald, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa, on his third trip to Montenegro this year, served as host for the reception that welcomed the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic and U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro, the Honorable Roderick W. Moore, along with several senior Montenegrin cabinet and defense officials.

"We are very proud to have Montenegro as a partner, and this US ship is a symbol of that friendship between two very proud and sovereign nations. We look forward to working closely together in the future," said Fitzgerald.

This port visit provided several unique opportunities for the crew to nurture friendships with the people of Montenegro, from military engagements encompassing joint boarding, navigation, and engineering training to various community relations projects.

Klakring is on a regularly scheduled six-month deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility. The ship, assigned to Destroyer Squadron 14, is homeported in Mayport, Fla.
