NAPLES, Italy (NNS) -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of a $5 million Consolidated Support Center (CSC) at the U.S. Air Force Aviano Air Base March 31.

The CSC centralizes 14 frequently-visited service offices, enhancing the quality of life for Air Force personnel by providing them a multitude of services under one roof.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Europe and Southwest Asia's (NAVFAC EURSWA) Resident Officer in Charge of Construction (ROICC) Aviano provided the new 28,000 square-foot facility. Consorzio Cooperative Costruzioni of Bologna, Italy, was the project contractor.

The CSC construction was the third project in a greater effort, which included the Airmen and Family Readiness Center and the 603rd Air Control Squadron Warehouse, completed in 2007 and 2008 respectively.

"This is the last of three projects under this contract, and the team is hitting on all cylinders," said Lt. Cmdr. Joel Straus, NAVFAC EURSWA's ROICC at Aviano. "Government, designer and contractor have all worked together to modify the building to meet client demands, while still completing the project well-under the programmed amount."

"Through the exceptional teamwork over the years with Aviano 2000 projects, we've established a solid foundation for successful future contracts," said NAVFAC EURSWA Commanding Officer Capt. Frank Aucremanne. "It's a great pleasure to be partners with our Air Force and contractor teammates."

NAVFAC EURSWA executes more than $600 million a year in construction, professional engineering and facilities services for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of Defense and NATO commands in those countries throughout Europe and Southwest Asia where the Navy is the Department of Defense lead agent for military construction.
