U.S. Department of Defense Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) News Release |
No. 243-09 | ||
IMMEDIATE RELEASE | April 15, 2009 |
The Department of Defense announced today the United States will return two military housing sites in the United Kingdom.
In light of today’s security environment and the U.S. European Command’s force structure realignment and transformation, it was determined the capabilities provided by the housing units are no longer required.
The sites include 42 housing units at RAF Molesworth and 50 housing units at RAF Chevelston. All of the affected housing units are currently vacant. Facilities affected by this decision will begin the process of return to the host nation.
As with all stationing actions, the United States coordinated with host nation officials before making this announcement.
