Sri Lanka announces ceasefire thanks to New Delhi efforts

New Delhi, April 14, IRNA – Sri Lanka’s announcement for the two-day ceasefire is due to efforts taken by New Delhi.
India’s Home Minister, P. Chidambaram has said due to the efforts taken by the center, the Sri Lankan Government has announced a ceasefire for two days that began on Monday.
“The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) should also announce a ceasefire, as being impressed upon by the Indian Government”, All India Radio (AIR) reported, quoting a statement issued by Home Minister in Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu state.
He said that the Center desires that the ceasefire does not come to an end on the 15th of this month and said the UPA Government will continue to engage the neighboring country on this issue.
Asking for support, Chidambaram said that there must be cooperation from all sides for the ceasefire to continue beyond the declared two days.
