IAI's MLM Division Receives Second Consecutive CMMI 5 Certification

Apr 6, 2009

Israel Aerospace Industries' MLM Division, (IAI MLM) of Systems Missiles and Space Group, has received a Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI) Level 5 rating from the Carnegie Mellon® Software Engineering Institute for the second consecutive time.

MLM was first awarded the certificate in 2005. MLM was also the first organization in Israel to have received CMMI 5 in all the categories – software, engineering systems, and project management.

IAI MLM General Manager Mr. Uri Sinai said: "A Level 5 is the highest level rating awarded by the Carnegie Mellon® Software Engineering Institute. This certificate places MLM amongst the few international companies that have met the rigorous, stringent requirements of CMMI Level 5. MLM is a recognized leader because it consistently offers the highest quality products. This commitment is reflected in MLM's business ethics, which benefit our customers in Israel and worldwide."

Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI) is a development process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes. It is used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organization. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes.

The CMMI provides the latest best practices for product development and maintenance. The CMMI models improve upon the best practices of previous models in many important ways. CMMI best practices enable organizations to do the following:

* More explicitly link management and engineering activities to their business objectives
* Expand the scope of and visibility into the product life cycle and engineering activities to ensure that the product or service meets customer expectations
* Incorporate lessons learned from additional areas of best practice (e.g., measurement, risk management, and supplier management)
* Implement more robust high-maturity practices
* Address additional organizational functions critical to their products and services

MLM's commitment to achieving Level 5 CMMI rating stems from the benefits it provides to the organization as well as to its customers who have come to expect this dedication to quality excellence. MLM has received numerous quality awards as well as other national and international certificates for quality, safety and environmental management standards.

MLM Division within the Systems Missiles and Space Group is the leading systems integration house of Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. As a multifaceted design, development, and systems engineering organization, MLM has the experience, knowledge and capabilities to leverage its cutting-edge technologies to deliver systems that are among the most advanced in the world.

Systems, Missiles and Space group's sales in 2008 reached $863 million, compared with $771 million for 2007, an increase of 11 per cent.

IAI's back log of orders as of December 31, 2008, reach $7.1 billion, reflecting two years worth of sales.
