CHINHAE, Republic of Korea (NNS) -- Seabees from U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 40 deployed to Chinhae, Republic of Korea, briefed the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) March 19 on the training taking place during Exercise Key Resolve/Foal Eagle.
Rear Adm. Thomas S. Rowden visited the area to get a firsthand look at the field training taking place during the annual combined field exercise. Key Resolve/Foal Eagle helps strengthen joint military operations between U.S. and Republic of Korea (ROK) forces.
The Seabees are working hand-in-hand with Korean naval engineers to construct a Southeast Asia Hut (SEA hut) and a heavy timber bunker, along with simulating airfield repairs in combat conditions.
After his arrival, Rowden took time to address the combined crew.
"What does this [U.S. /ROK] relationship do for us?" asked Rowden. "Since July 1953, it has allowed us to enjoy peace and prosperity here in Korea."
After completing the SEA hut, the Seabees will conduct training on constructing timber bunkers, which provides shelter at an entry control point and will continue training on airfield damage repair after the exercise.
This was not the first time Rowden has seen the Seabees of "Fighting Forty" in action.
On Jan. 29, he visited the utilities upgrade project, which will allow service and emergency vehicles to access existing and future open bay barracks. The existing barracks are currently housing active-duty and reserve personnel who are participating in the exercise, proving how the Seabees of NMCB 40 support present and future exercises in the area.
