IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, March 18, IRNA -- Germany spent 917.4 million euros last year for its global military missions, dpa cited Wednesday a document released by the German Finance Ministry.
A major cost factor has been Germany's ongoing participation in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan where Berlin paid around 536 million euros in 2008 for its troop presence.
Around 271 million euros was allocated for administrative military matters, including gasoline and material transport.
Last year's German defense budget amounted to 29.45 billion euros.
More than 9,000 German troops are based abroad, among them Afghanistan, the Balkan region, Lebanon and the Horn of Africa.
