DCNS teams with CPI to win €12 million telemetry contract
17 Mar 2009
DCNS and CPI, a world leader in telemetry antenna systems, have been selected by the French defence procurement agency (DGA) for a seven-year contract worth €12 million to replace and support 19 telemetry antennas at seven DGA sites, including the CELM missile range in southwest France, the CEV flight test centre and aboard the Monge* missile tracking ship.
The antennas will receive telemetry data transmitted primarily by missiles and fighter aircraft. Some units will be fitted with tracking cameras; others will be equipped to receive weather data.
To meet the requirements of the DGA's call for tenders and to offer the customer the best possible service, DCNS teamed up with US-based contractor CPI, one of the world's leading suppliers of telemetry antenna systems.
Cooperation was key to the partners' success on this project. DCNS and CPI worked together closely during the bid phase, effectively sharing their complementary expertise to ensure that all the customer's requirements were met.
DCNS will act as overall project prime contractor with responsibility for installation studies, civil engineering, deployment, testing, and through-life support for seven years. CPI will develop and produce the telemetry antennas and provide support for project management and commissioning of the first units.
This contract demonstrates DCNS's capacity to produce winning bids based on solid partnerships and leverage its own expertise to compete effectively in areas that are complementary to its traditional core businesses.
In 2008, DCNS won a contract to renovate, modify and maintain 14 optical trajectography turrets at DGA-owned missile launch test centres in southwest and southern France. The renovation work included the delivery, installation and commissioning of replacement equipment, the training of operators and maintenance personnel, the delivery of equipment documentation and through-life support for the renovated turrets for four years.
* The Monge makes measurements and receives telemetry data during missile flight tests.
