JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Air Station Jacksonville said goodbye to the Black Tips when Consolidated Maintenance Organization (CMO) 11 held its disestablishment ceremony March 6.
CMO 11, established Oct. 22, 2006, took maintenance personnel from P-3 squadrons assigned to Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 11 and formed one maintenance organization comprised of 660 Sailors.
Cmdr. Patrick J. McCormick, the commanding officer of CMO 11, said that the idea was to form a consolidated command that would be able to send up to 175 maintainers with deploying P-3 squadrons at the same time.
Although the command is being disestablished, McCormick feels that consolidated maintenance still has a future in the Navy.
"I think that with the P-8, which is the replacement for the P-3, it will be the perfect opportunity to once again consolidate maintenance and operate in that function," said McCormick.
Once the command was officially disestablished, the Sailors of CMO 11 returned to their individual squadrons.
"The thing that I am most proud of is when the decision was made to return to traditional squadron maintenance, there was 110 percent effort. Everybody was motivated and excited," said Capt. Kyle J. Cozad, commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 11. "Everything happened safely and professionally."
During their first year of operation CMO 11 received the Golden Wrench Award for Excellence in aviation maintenance.
