Lankan army kills LTTE finance chief

New Delhi, Mar 12, IRNA -- Advancing military troops conducting offensive operations against LTTE successfully captured Puthukkudirippu Hospital Thursday morning.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) have reportedly suffered heavy damage in the clashes. In the subsequent search operations the troops have recovered a satellite phone, large hauls of arms and ammunition and, buried stocks of aircraft spare parts including aircraft tyres, batteries, engine parts and several other accessories, kept buried by Tigers in oil barrels, All India Radio (AIR) reported.

In yet another report, the Sri Lankan military have claimed to have killed the head of the financial wing of the LTTE Subarathnam Selvatureiy alias Thamilend.

According to the military sources, the Army has further restricted the LTTE into a 37 square kilometers.

Meanwhile, pro-LTTE sources have revealed 38 US Congress members have sent a joint letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and to the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Susan Rice, highlighting the humanitarian crisis faced by Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka.

The letter also expresses concern over conditions in the internment camps, calling for bringing the issue to the UN Security Council, and encouraging active US leadership to bring about a long-delayed political settlement.
