Security stepped up in Nepal to prevent anti-China protests

New Delhi, March 9, IRNA -- Nepal Monday stepped up security in the capital to prevent anti-China protests ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising against the Communist rule on March 10.
The security has been beefed up around the Chinese Embassy and Consular Office as officials feared anti-Beijing protest by Tibetans to mark the anniversary of failed uprising in Tibet in 1959, PTI reported quoting Nepal's police sources.
Special security has also been provided to Chinese joint venture companies and business establishments linked to the communist nation operating in Nepal.
Police personnel have been mobilized around the Chinese Embassy and Consular Office, as the areas were declared a special security zone.
Meanwhile, Nepal has stepped up security along its border with Tibet to thwart any attempt by the Dalai Lama's supporters to cross over to the Himalayan nation.
The police recently rounded up 59 Tibetans involved in suspicious activities in the area and released them after investigation.
The Tibetans are preparing massive rallies in India and Nepal to mark the event and the crackdown by the Chinese military on peaceful demonstrations in Lhasa last year.
