From Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast Public Affairs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast entered into exclusive negotiations for its first Enhanced Use Lease (EUL) agreement and is working closely with its partner to form a business agreement to out-lease real property at Navy Outlying Landing Field (NOLF) Saufley, just north of Pensacola, Fla.

"We are meeting bi-weekly to assess the existing assets at Saufley Field," said NAVFAC Southeast Supervisory Realty Specialist Kathleen McFarland.

The Navy is meeting with Saufley Group, LLC, a subsidiary of dck Worldwide, LLC of Pittsburgh, Penn., who was awarded the exclusive rights to negotiation Sept. 22 to come up with a business plan and eventual execution to out-lease real property at NOLF Saufley. The property includes 104.5 acres on two sites with 88 facilities and 724,000 square feet of building improvements.

Saufley Group's proposal identified five potential uses, including technology support and aeronautical education initiatives.

NOLF Saufley, approximately nine miles northwest of downtown Pensacola, Fla., supports the flight training mission of Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, which is approximately 12 miles to the south and NAS Whiting Field, which is approximately 32 miles to the northeast. It covers more than 800 acres, operating two active 4,000-foot runways and has more than 34,425 square feet of hangar space.

The Navy intends to continue using the airfield portion of NOLF Saufley to support fixed-wing aviator and naval flight officer training. The primary area (Site 1) is 86 acres on the south side of Saufley and includes three available hangars. The second site, approximately 18 acres, is located south of the perimeter of the installation and is currently being used as a golf course.

In 1996 Saufley Field became Naval Education and Training Professional Development and Technology Center (NETPDTC), a major shore command. NETPDTC supports 10 major Department of Defense and Navy tenants and has a total base population of more than 1,000. Existing EUL site tenants are either closing under BRAC 2005 or relocating to NAS Pensacola.

In addressing the Saufley Field Enhanced Use Lease Proposal, Capt. Bill Reavey, commanding officer, Naval Air Station Pensacola stated, "This proposal provides the Navy the opportunity to better utilize property at Saufley Field that is currently under-utilized. We look forward to working with dck Worldwide, LLC in developing a project that will benefit the Navy and the local community."
