India says its border with Bangladesh is safe, secure

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

New Delhi, Feb 26, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman man announced here on Thursday that India's joint border with Bangladesh is safe and secure.

"The developments in Bangladesh is an internal matter and Dhaka will resolve the issue amicably", said Vishnu Prakash, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.

"India's border with Bangladesh is safe and secure. The state stepped up surveillance along border areas following reports of rebellion in BDR headquarter in Dhaka", said Indian official in response to a question on the developments in Bangladesh.

At least 50 Bangladeshi army officers are feared dead in a mutiny after rebellious Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) troops Wednesday opened fire on them over a pay dispute.

Referring to Pakistan Supreme Court's decision on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother and chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, the spokesman said that the matter is entirely internal to Pakistan and New Delhi has no comments to offer.

Pakistan's Supreme court on Wednesday disqualified Nawaz Sharif, who heads the country's largest opposition party and his brother Shahbaz Sharif from contesting elections, a move likely to raise political tensions in the country.
