Sri Lanka govt rejects cease-fire call by LTTE

New Delhi, Feb 24, IRNA -- The Sri Lankan Government says, it has no intention of entering into a ceasefire, but will accept laying down of arms by the LTTE.
According to All India Radio (AIR) report, Sri Lankan Defence Spokesperson Keheliya Rambukwella said this in response to LTTE's appeal to the international community for effecting a ceasefire.
Earlier the Political Head of the LTTE, B. Nadesan said that LTTE is ready to accept the calls for a ceasefire issued by the international community with the good intention of ending the human suffering.
The LTTE desires that this effort for a ceasefire to grow further into peace talks to seek a political solution to the ethnic conflict. He said that laying down arms is not a solution.
Meanwhile, the advancing Sri Lankan army have encircled the last LTTE bastion as troops destroyed a major earth bund considered a key tiger foothold in the region, killing 9 rebels in various clashes, the army said.
Security forces have now encircled Puthukkudiyiruppu town and positioned in some 400m striking distance, military sources added.
