New Delhi, Feb 12, IRNA -- The armed wing of the Maoists in Nepal People's Liberation Army (PLA) will mark the 14th Anniversary of the "People's War" during a six-day event beginning on Thursday.
Over 12,000 People's Liberation Army personnel will participate in the anniversary celebrations to be held at a special stadium built for the event in Nawalparasi, south-west of Kathmandu.
Prime Minister Prachanda and his senior colleagues are expected to participate in the inaugural ceremony today, Doordarshan news website reported.
The Maoists had launched their movement, which they call the 'People's War', in February 1996. The Communist insurgency claimed over 14,000 lives before the rebels returned to the political mainstream in 2006 after signing a peace deal.
The concluding ceremony will take place on February 18.
