U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Awards SAIC Energy Savings Performance Contract

SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., Feb 02, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Company to Implement Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and Water Conservation Projects at Government Facilities Throughout the U.S.

Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) today announced it has been awarded an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to design, construct, and obtain financing for projects that will reduce energy and water consumption and costs, and promote the use of renewable energy technologies. The multiple award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract has a five year base period of performance, one five year option and a total contract ceiling of $50 million if all options are exercised. Work will be performed at government facilities throughout the U.S. by SAIC's design-build subsidiary, The Benham Companies LLC.

ESPC enables the government to design, construct, and obtain financing for energy savings projects, with payments made to contractors over time from the reduction in utility bills, which are paid by the department's appropriated funds. Under the contract, SAIC will help installations achieve mandated energy reduction goals in accordance with the National Energy Conservation Policy Act by designing, constructing, and obtaining financing for energy savings projects. The programs will help eliminate energy waste, increase energy efficiency, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, conserve water resources, and improve energy security in support of the Department of Defense and other Federal agencies.

"We look forward to helping the government meet the goals of its aggressive energy mandates, while addressing challenges in energy, water consumption, and climate change," said J.T. Grumski, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.
