Turkish PM Welcomed Home After Gaza Row
By VOA News
30 January 2009
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been welcomed home by thousands of supporters after his public spat with Israel's president over Israel's recent offensive in Gaza.
Mr. Erdogan returned to Istanbul Friday, a day after he left a debate at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The prime minister said he was angry that he was not given time to respond to Israeli President Shimon Peres' lengthy defense of Israel's tough response to Hamas rockets. Mr. Erdogan was cut-off after he accused Mr. Peres of killing people.
The Turkish prime minister said his frustration in Davos was aimed at the moderator and not the Israeli people.
The two leaders spoke by phone shortly after the incident. Reports say their conversation was positive.
