ARIFJAN, Kuwait (NNS) -- The morning of Dec. 17 was brutally cold, but optimism filled the air as it was concrete day for the Seabees of Camp Buehring.
Concrete is the ultimate agent of construction. It can be shaped into just about anything, can be used for many different purposes and once placed it is as close to permanent as you can get.
"As any builder will tell you concrete days are good days and today would indeed be a good day," said one Seabee.
Once the trucks were onsite and the concrete started flowing, the crew sprang into action. With young wide-eyed Seabees scattered everywhere, the pour was underway. All hands were on deck, and everyone was willing to jump in, get dirty and make the day a success.
With the plan in action and several hours of intensive labor, the concrete was all in place. All the crew had to do now was smooth and finish the pad. At approximately 7:15 p.m. the pad was done, and the crew was exhausted.
"I am very proud of our troops," said Chief Construction Electrician (SCW) Russell Green, operations chief.
"They completely blew away my expectations and did an outstanding job. Today I am very impressed with these young Seabees."
With this pour out of the way and concrete now in their blood, the Seabees of Camp Buehring say they are definitely ready for more.
