SASEBO, Japan (NNS) -- Ship Repair Facility (SRF) Sasebo received a Meritorious Unit Commendation from Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Dr. Donald C. Winter presented by Commander, Amphibious Forces 7th Fleet at a Dec. 18 ceremony.
Rear Adm. Richard Landolt presented the award to the Sailors and civilian employees that make up Sasebo's SRF team during a presentation in the command conference room.
"SRF Sasebo has been awarded the Meritorious Unit Citation for outstanding ship repair efforts and our superior focus on keeping our customers happy," said Cmdr. Daniel Lannamann, officer-in-charge of SRF Sasebo. "We have been able to do more than our customers expect and keep all of the ships in the Sasebo basin and CTF [Combined Task Force] 76 happy by getting the ships fixed and supporting the mission."
The award, which recognizes superior mission accomplishment, highlighted the significant milestones SRF achieved from Oct. 1, 2006, through May 31, 2007.
"We have a really good team of U.S. Navy, U.S. civil servant and Japanese workers here that work very well as a team," said William Nagami a planning officer and senior U.S. civil servant at SRF.
"We try to do the best job that we can and make sure that our customers are satisfied," said Nagami. "We accomplish repairs that are technically correct in a timely manner, like our mission statement says – Keeping the Seventh Fleet operationally ready."
The award cited SRF for the planning and execution of more than 56,630 man-days of depot level production work in support of the U.S. Navy's forward deployed naval forces. This included multiple category 3 reports and one category 4 report in support of the Essex Expeditionary Strike Group and U.S. 7th Fleet.
"I feel terrific and I am so glad that the hard work and the good job that each and every individual attached to this command and those who support us are getting recognized," said Master Chief Machinist's Mate (SW/AW) Daniel Ferrer, a Baguio City Philippines native and SRF senior enlisted advisor.
"This is a validation of what they have already known, this is the best group of ship repair in the world and the best group of professionals I have ever worked with," added Lannamann.
