Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday expressed concern over presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan, stressing that foreign forces are root cause of insecurity in that country.

In a meeting with Afghan Vice-President Abdul Karim Khalili, he said presence of occupying forces has also led to expansion of extremism in the region.

Referring to increase in production and transit of narcotic drugs as the malady of presence of foreign powers in Afghanistan, he added that the alien forces have come to Afghanistan under the pretext of fight against production and smuggling of illicit drugs.

Larijani further referred to Afghanistan as a country which can play an effective role in establishment of regional stability and security.

He added that Iran and Afghanistan share many religious, historic, cultural and geographical commonalties.

Underlining importance of coexistence between various Afghan tribes, he stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always underscored the need for consolidation of unity and solidarity among different groups in that war-torn country.

Larijani further voiced Tehran's readiness to boost all-out ties with Kabul particularly in the areas of economy and culture.

Khalili appreciated Iran's great assistance during his country's difficult time, saying that the Islamic Republic is the closest friend of the Afghan nation.

He called for presence of Iranian traders and further investment of Iranian private and state companies in his country's development projects.
