CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait (NNS) -- Five Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4 based out of Naval Base Ventura County, Calif., completed the construction of a Mail Cage Reinforcement project Oct. 11.

The Mail Cage, located at the Joint Military Mail Terminal (JMMT), serves as a holding facility for Camp Arifjan's incoming and outgoing mail. The terminal receives and distributes mail from 14 Army Post Offices, five of which are located in Iraq. On a slow day, the facility handles approximately 65,500 pounds of mail and throughout the Christmas surge, upwards of 350,000 pounds.

The mail cage is part of the Regulation Mail Room, which receives and distributes approximately 250 pieces of classified information a week. Seabees installed steel wire mesh to the interior of the room and installed metal doors to reinforce the integrity of the room. The newly renovated cage provides the JMMT with an additional location to store classified material.

Constructionman Electrician 2nd Class (SCW) Lessley Gumbs was a project crew member responsible for completing much of the electrical work. Gumbs believes his team's efforts were instrumental in the completion of the project. "I feel the whole crew put a lot of hard work and effort into this project, and it improved the overall security of the mail cage, making all of its contents secure."

Once again, the Seabees of NMCB 4 have made a lasting contribution to Area Support Group-Kuwait's mission by providing unparalleled construction expertise to the local commander. Although they are nearly halfway through the current deployment, these men and women will undoubtedly provide numerous other improvements to other facilities throughout Kuwait.
