Sagem Défense Sécurité receives order for 560 SITEL information systems for the French arm
Paris – November 21, 2008 -- French defense procurement agency DGA has awarded Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) the contract for an additional batch of 560 SITEL (Système d’Information Terminaux Elémentaires) information systems, to be deployed by the French army. The contract includes the integration of the terminals in vehicles, as well as all maintenance services.
Designed for several types of combat vehicles, the SITEL information system comprises a touch-screen terminal, including digital mapping function, and an interface for connections to tactical radio, navigation and observation systems.
SITEL is interoperable with the federation of information systems deployed by the French army, including the system in the FELIN integrated equipment suite for infantry soldiers. It allows army units to exchange formatted messages, designate targets, consult data bases, share information on friend/foe situations, and make optimized tactical choices.
Sagem Défense Sécurité is prime contractor for the SITEL program, with Cap Gemini as co-contractor. A total of 4,500 terminals will be delivered to the French army. This latest order follows an earlier order for 1,000 SITEL terminals.
Used in foreign theaters of operation, SITEL systems are already in service with the 2nd Armored Brigade and the 6th Light Armored Brigade.
