CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait (NNS) -- Recently, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4's Alfa Company was tasked with supplying Civil Engineer Support Equipment (CESE) to sustain humanitarian assistance missions in Cameroon and Uganda located in the south eastern region of western Africa.
Alfa Company is responsible for 465 units of CESE located throughout the world to include the Horn of Africa; Romania; Rota, Spain; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Afghanistan. An NMCB's inventory of CESE is comprised of heavy and light construction equipment to include generators, forklifts, high mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWV) and medium tactical vehicle replacements (MTVR), bulldozers, cranes and water well drilling rigs.
Prepping the vehicles to go down range is no easy task, but the mechanics and operators in Alfa Company have diligently worked with their crews to meet the required deadline. The equipment will need to be systematically inspected and thoroughly washed of dirt and contamination to ensure that it will be mission capable.
"With the tireless efforts of my crew we were able to get in and get the work done with little to no difficulties. I'm very proud of my crew's ability to come together and accomplish such a demanding task in such a short time," said Construction Mechanic 3rd Class (SCW) Adam Samp.
After the equipment is function checked and washed, it will be loaded onto tractor trailers and transported to Camp Moreell to begin the embark process, then it will be staged for transport to Rota, Spain and the Horn of Africa.
Construction Mechanic 2nd (SCW/AW) Joshua Karr stated, "The bottom line is that we have nothing but good mechanics in the shop, so it does not matter how much time is given to get things ready. And because of the type of mechanics we have in Alfa Company the procedures and process for this evolution is going smooth."
This equipment will support local humanitarian projects allowing our Seabees to be part theater security cooperation efforts in the region.
