CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait (NNS) -- Personnel from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4's Charlie company completed the renovation of a base chapel on Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, Nov. 5, providing U.S. and coalition service members a safe place to rest and reflect during deployment.

Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who use the Zone 6 Chapel Annex at Camp Arifjan had to abandon the building until the fire marshall rendered the potentially hazardous facility a safe place to gather.

Builder 2nd Class Erik Pimentel, the project supervisor, and six crew members stepped in to take on the challenge and make the renovations.

Since the beginning of October, personnel have removed 2,200 square feet of plywood and replaced it with drywall and installed new linoleum flooring. The crew also replaced the air conditioning units and put in new electrical wall sockets. Many of the crew members are new to the battalion and were unsure of what to expect on their first deployment.

"I had no idea I would be doing this kind of work," said Construction Joshua Lunak, project crew leader. "I also get the chance to gain some outstanding skills being the team's crew leader."

"We have ensured every stage of this project was executed safely and quickly," Pimentel said. "I have a crew of very hard workers. The crew's commitment is outstanding; they truly embody the Seabees 'Can Do' spirit."

Personnel from NMCB 4 took on this project to show the skills they learned in homeport, but to also give coalition forces deployed from all over the world a place to find peace of mind, spiritual guidance and boost their morale before they transition back to the their homes or deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan.
