FM warns certain states of talks with Afghanistan Taliban

Tehran, Oct 19, IRNA

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki warned foreign forces present in Afghanistan on Sunday against incurring another defeat by entering into talks with Taliban forces.

"One who plants wind, will harvest storm," Mottaki told certain European states that have entered into negotiations with Taliban.

He made the remarks during a joint press conference with his Tanzanian counterpart Bernard Membe who is currently in Iran.

"Afghanistan has become more unsafe today than it was seven years ago when the foreign troops arrived in the country," Mottaki said.

He stressed that everyone has now admitted failure of the strategies adopted by foreign forces in Afghanistan.

"Terrorism and extremism know no geographic border and will reach Europe and the West sooner or later," Mottaki said stressing that no one could ever claim success in containing terrorism or extremism.

The minister added that the most important job to be done by West "is to make an honest diagnosis about its policies in Afghanistan." Mottaki advised Western powers to be careful about the consequences of the ongoing regional developments in order not to repeat the same old mistakes.
