Sagem Défense Sécurité selects Thales Minie D night vision binoculars for the FELIN program headgear
Saint-Héand, October 17, 2008 -- For the visit of Hervé Morin, French Minister of Defense, on the Thales Angénieux site, the two companies announced that Sagem Défense Sécurité, prime contractor of the FELIN program, has selected the Minie D night vision binoculars made by Thales for the headgear of French Land Forces infantrymen.
Light and compact, the Minie D night vision binoculars made by Thales offer excellent night vision performances. They provide a 20% improvement in optical performance over current gear, satisfying the high requirements of the FELIN program.
The Minie D connects to infantryman systems via an electronic box made by Sagem Défense Sécurité, enabling remote night firing.
With its light-weight, optical quality and the night vision capability, it greatly enhances fighter security in asymmetric night combat.
"Obviously, we are very proud to join the FELIN program," explained Serge Adrian, Director of the Optronics product line, Thales Land and Joint Systems. "Alongside Sagem Défense Sécurité, Thales thus contributes to one of the most emblematic soldier equipment programs."
"The choice of the Thales Minie D for the FELIN system is yet another illustration of the long-standing cooperation between our two companies in defense optronics," underlined Jean-François Coutris, Executive Vice President , Chief operating officer; Sagem Optronics and Defense Division at Sagem Défense Sécurité.
FELIN* is the French land forces Soldier Modernization Program. The DGA (French Procurement Agency) chose Sagem Défense Sécurité to be the program's prime contractor following on from a call for tenders. A modular and integrated system, FELIN provides infantrymen with the new protection, observation, communication, command, coordination and weapons use capabilities required for present-day asymmetric conflict.
