CLB-6 returns home from Iraq

US Marine Corps News

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (September 16, 2008) — The last group of more than 700 Marines and sailors from Combat Logistics Battalion 6, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, returned home, Sept. 15, after a combat deployment to Iraq.

The battalion operated throughout the western Al Anbar province from February through September 2008, providing direct combat logistical support to Regimental Combat Team 5 in all six logistical areas: transportation support, supply, maintenance, services, health services and general engineering.

They also helped to facilitate the regiment’s transition from tactical to operational over watch, by building forward operating bases in more remote locations and allowing Iraqi forces to look after the larger cities in the country.

Lt. Col. David J. Eskelund, the commanding officer of CLB-6, said it was an honor to deploy with the battalion, which did not suffer any combat casualties during their tour of duty.

“As a lieutenant colonel and a battalion commanding officer, it is a highlight of my career to deploy with the battalion and return safely,” he said. “The deployment went very well. The battalion received accolades from 1st MLG and RCT-5. It was a pleasure to support and serve.”
