PEARL HARBOR, Sept. 12 (NNS) -- Captain Randy Moore, commanding officer of Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Pearl Harbor received a letter of commendation from Commodore D. L. Johnston, Commander, Australian National Command Element, Royal Australian Navy July 31. The commendation lauded FISC Pearl Harbor's Logistics Support Center (LSC) for the establishment of a fully integrated combined Coalition Fleet Logistics Site (FLS) during this summer's Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) naval exercise.

"On behalf of the Australian RIMPAC forces, I commend the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center's Logistics Support Center for meritorious and exemplary performance during Exercise RIMPAC 2008," said Johnston.

"It's a great honor to stand before you as your skipper and receive this commendation," said Moore. "However, there are hundreds of folks behind the scenes whose good work brought about this commendation."

Although this was the 21st RIMPAC exercise, it was the first to employ a fully integrated combined FLS. The Coalition FLS was composed of logistics teams and personnel from nine foreign nations, as well as USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), HSC-85, VRC-30, and the FISC Pearl Harbor's LSC.

"The Logistic Support Center's contribution to the establishment of a fully integrated combined Coalition Fleet Logistics Site, for the first time in the RIMPAC series of exercises, significantly improved the logistics supply chain processes in direct support of the over 40 major Coalition Naval Units from 10 different navies," said Johnston.

According to Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Lookabill, head of FISC Pearl Harbor's LSC, aggressive employment and participation by the team's foreign navy personnel directly contributed to increased readiness for all participating units. A strong sense of camaraderie and team spirit ensured that all foreign and U.S. Navy personnel truly understood the mission and the importance of integrated coalition operations.

"The Coalition FLS resulted in significant improvement in overall logistics efficiency and mission accomplishment, and it laid the groundwork for increased coalition cooperation in future operations," said Lookabill.

"It is by working with partner nations that relationships of trust and cooperation are built," said Lookabill. "In the event of a multinational crisis, these relationships will markedly contribute to maritime security and stability throughout the Pacific Rim.

"We have a superb team of people at this LSC and everyone realizes the vital importance of our Navy's multinational relationships," he said. "For more than a month, we worked hand-in-hand with coalition personnel from nine other countries, but, in no time, the entire group became one unit with a single purpose, to support the fleet.

"The cooperation and camaraderie of everyone, from all the nations, was simply tremendous. I can't say enough about our people and the coalition personnel with whom we worked."

RIMPAC, which is normally held every two years in Hawaiian waters, is the world's largest multinational naval exercise. This year's participants included Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, Netherlands, Peru, Republic of Korea, Singapore, United Kingdom, and the United States.
