Thales and Armasuisse sign the contract for the Swiss Air Force
11 September 2008
Thales signed with Armasuisse, the procurement and technology centre of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport DDPS, on September 11th, 2008 a € 35 million contract to provide two (2) Level D helicopter flight simulators.
A small ceremony has been held on the occasion of Comm '08, the military exhibition in Frauenfeld showing the communication technologies used by the Swiss Army today, yesterday and in the future, where Jakob Baumann, Chief of Armament and Bruno E. Giger, CEO of Thales Suisse signed this prestigious contract.
Both simulators will be installed at the Swiss Air Force Training Centre in Emmen and should be operational by 2011. One of the simulators will be used for the recently procured Light Transport and Training Helicopter (LTSH), and the second for the upgraded Super Puma helicopters.
Thales Suisse, a company of the Thales group, will function as prime contractor with Thales Training & Simulation as principal subcontractor and design authority.
Thales already provided the Super Puma full flight simulator in service at Emmen since 1993. In addition, Thales' experience in Switzerland includes the supply of driving simulators for the main battle tanks, self-propelled howitzers, armoured infantry fighting vehicles and tank destroyers for the Army, as well as a variety of anti aircraft gunnery simulators for the Air Force.
Bruno Giger, CEO of Thales Suisse says: "Simulation systems by Thales tell a longstanding success story in Switzerland and we are pleased that our leading role is further documented with this additional simulation project."
