Sri Lankan military has confirmed that 10 navy personnel were injured in last night's air attack by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on the eastern port city of Trincomalee.
A light aircraft of the Tamil outfit had dropped two 'improvised bombs' on the Naval dockyard at Trincomalee last night, All India Radio (AIR) reported quoting spokesperson at the Media Center for Sri Lanka's National security.
The details of extent of damage caused by the air strike are 'not immediately known'.
Defense sources had initially maintained that no damage was caused following the air attack.
Though the air defence system was activated soon after the LTTE offensive, their aircraft flew away to unknown location after dropping the bombs.
This was the first air attack by the Tamil Tigers in more than one year. They had dropped bombs near Colombo air port in July last year.
