EVERETT, Wash. (NNS) -- USS Ingraham (FFG 61) began a Selected Restricted Availability Period (SRA) period July 14 at Naval Station Everett.

The ship will receive maintenance and upgrades to various systems on the guided missile frigate over the next two months.

"The availability is an excellent time to take care of the equipment that took care of us during deployment," said the operations officer Lt. Drew Borovies.

During Ingraham's extended pier side stay, the ship will undergo renovations and repairs for equipment like the anchor windlass, the flight deck, and the galley steam kettle. The ship will also go through a deep cleansing and inspection of its ship's service diesel generators, which powered the warship during her recent deployment with the Tarawa Expeditionary Strike Group.

"This is the first SRA for me, it's hard to recognize the spaces with so much boarded up," said Cryptologic Technician 3rd Class Tyler Rose. "With all the grinding and construction, it makes me appreciate the ear plugs given to me."

Ingraham's Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Matthew Ovios, outlined his expectations to the crew during a command stand down one week before the availability began. He stressed the importance of personal and professional development for the Sailors, as well as the material condition and readiness of the ship.

"The maintenance team has worked hard to develop a work package that uses available funding to address the maintenance that will ensure Ingraham remains ready for tasking for many years to come," said Ovios. "The overriding goal of the contractors, the Navy's maintenance organization, and ship's force is for Ingraham to complete SRA at a higher state of readiness than when she entered."

Upon completion, the ship's crew will perform sea trials to ensure the new and overhauled equipment is working properly. This will enable the frigate to continue serving in peak condition, providing effective naval assistance across the globe.
