NAPLES, Italy (NNS) -- The U.S. Marine Corps Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST), based out of Rota, Spain, visited Naval Support Activity (NSA) Aug. 5, to provide a three-day training course for the NSA security force.

The training course included close-quarters battle (CQB), Marine Corps mixed martial arts as well as riot and crowd control. In addition to the combat training, Marines acted as an additional security presence on both NSA Naples and the support site in Gricignano.

"This is the team's first time traveling to Naples to provide this kind of training," said Cpl. Anthony Carter, who has been with FAST Company for nearly two years.

According to Carter, the CQB training teaches Sailors what to do if they are attacked in a closed environment and crowd control training gives them skills to work as a team against a large crowd of potential attackers.

Both scenarios prepared the base security force for anything that could come there way when they are put in a real-life situation.

Master-at-Arms (MA) 1st Class John Rodrigo said the training can be used during their day to day operations.

"As an MA, any hand-to-hand training to protect ourselves and the public is much appreciated," said Rodrigo. "It is something we hope we never have to use, but in case we have to we can."
