OKINAWA, Japan (NNS) -- Fifty-one Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 133 participated July 26, in the first large scale community relations project since NMCB 133's arrival at Camp Shields, Okinawa in June for a seven-month deployment.

Two Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) buses departed Camp Shields and arrived at Hamahiga Island in White Beach where they split up into two groups. Half of them went to the Hama side and the other half cleaned the fishing port on the Higa side of the island. Aside from picking up trash, several Seabees on the Higa side volunteered their "Can Do" attitude to assist a local fisherman in relocating his boat and trailer.

Seabees filled a truckload of large trash bags. They also removed some junk items that could not be placed in bags due to the size including old tires, stereo components and furniture.

With the work completed, Seabees enjoyed a picnic on White Beach base and a tour of the fast-attack submarine USS Asheville (SSN 758), temporarily docked on base. On the bus ride back to Camp Shields, the question was asked more than once when the next community relations event would be held.
