General Dynamics Awarded $24 Million for USMC Light Armored Vehicles

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – General Dynamics Land Systems has been awarded a $24.2 million contract to produce 10 LAV-25 Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs), three LAV logistics vehicles and vehicle components for the United States Marine Corps (USMC) to meet anticipated war-loss requirements. General Dynamics Land Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).

The LAV-A2 is a mobile, agile and survivable system for conducting offensive and defensive operations in support of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. The eight-wheeled amphibious vehicle is equipped with enhanced armor protection and an automatic fire-suppression system for crew protection, as well as a robust suspension for mobility.

In February 2006, General Dynamics was awarded a contract by the USMC Systems Command to produce 157 LAV-A2s in six different variants, including the LAV-25, anti-tank, command and control, logistics, mortar and Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Reconnaissance System (NBCRS) configurations. General Dynamics delivered the first LAV-A2 to the Marines in October 2007.

Work on the vehicles will be performed at General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada, located in London, Ontario, and will be completed by December 2009. General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada is a business unit of General Dynamics Land Systems of Sterling Heights.
