CORONADO, Calif. (NNS) -- Naval Special Warfare Group 1 Logistics Support Unit 1(LOGSU-1), during a ceremony held at Naval Amphibious Base, Aug. 1.

Cmdr. Kevin M. Jones relieved Cmdr. Michael J. Wilson as commanding officer.

Opening the mid-morning ceremony, after parading of colors and prayer, Wilson introduced guest speaker, Capt. Robert J. Snyder, LOSGU-1's first commanding officer and current assistant chief of staff for logistics, engineering, maintenance, and combat systems at Naval Special Warfare Command.

"Many great minds and leaders [from Alexander the Great to General Eisenhower] understood the strategic impact of logistics," said Snyder, in his speech. "While campaigning, they found logistics to be the foundation of warfighting."

Snyder reflected on the "outstanding and versatile role" LOGSU-1 has played to reshape and improve supply process, costumer services and facilities, including maintaining a 17,000 line-item armory, one of the largest in the Navy.

Additionally, he highlighted the large amount of Combat Action Ribbons, four Bronze Star Medals and two Purple Hearts awarded as a testament of the LOGSU-1 Sailors' dedication to the Naval Special Warfare mission.

"This has been the best job of my career, bar none," said Wilson. "I am a better officer, better leader for my time at LOGSU. I am grateful to have served with the men and women of this command." His next assignment is the Navy Operational Logistics Support Center in Norfolk.

Wilson, a Greenville, Mich. native, received his commission in September 1988 and completed supply officer training in Athens, Ga.

Becoming LOGSU-1's fourth commanding officer, Jones, a Pittsfield, Mass. native, expressed his excitement to join the team of highly-skilled and dedicated professionals in their continued support for the operators and Naval Special Warfare Group 1 tenant commands.

"We are a command at war… on the leading edge of change," said Jones. "Our future is a good one, and I look forward to realizing it with you."

Commissioned in 2001, LOGSU-1 is a subordinate command of Naval Special Warfare Group 1, consisting of more than 20 Navy ratings to supply, maintain training facilities, and support combat deployments to Central and Pacific Command theaters of operation in support of the war on terrorism.
