WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), headquartered in Washington D.C., awarded a $26,193,985 University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) contract to the University of Hawaii (UH) Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) July 15.
The ARL will provide research and development and specialized engineering services for the Department of Defense (DoD) in four core competency areas to maintain essential capabilities. The four areas are: ocean environmental effects; astronomical research; advanced electro-optical systems, detectors, arrays and instrumentation; and electromagnetic spectrum research.
NAVSEA serves as DoD administrative sponsor for the UARC and will administer the multi-task delivery order contract. David Sivillo, NAVSEA's UARC Deputy Program Manager, expressed his appreciation for the UH administration's commitment and hard work.
"I look forward to ARL at UH applying its excellent scientific abilities to assist the Navy in meeting its technological challenges."
The UH's ARL is the 12th UARC approved by the DoD. UARCs enable DoD to establish and maintain long-term strategic relationships with selected universities, to conduct essential research development and scientific and engineering expertise in core competency areas important to DoD.
