EVERETT, Wash. (NNS) -- The Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) and Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) departed Naval Station (NAVSTA) Everett for Seattle July 29 to participate in Seafair festivities.
Both ships, homeported in San Diego, made an overnight stop at NAVSTA Everett prior to leaving for the Seattle Seafair festivities.
While at Everett the crews of both ships were treated to a barbecue and other recreational activities by the NAVSTA Everett Morale, Welfare, and Recreation staff.
"This is a new thing for me," said Electronics Technician 3rd Class Vincent Adkins, Princeton. "I've never been part of anything like this, and am really looking forward to taking part in all of it."
Before departing Everett, Princeton welcomed aboard more than 100 guests, while Germantown welcomed 200. The guests made the journey with the ships and crews to Seattle.
Seafair is an annual event which takes place in Seattle. This is the 59th annual Seafair celebration, which includes arts and crafts, rides, contests, Blue Angels flight demonstrations, hydroplane races, and live music.
