
USS Pearl Harbor Commanding Officer Relieved

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (NNS) -- Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group 3 relieved the commanding officer of the amphibious loading dock ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) July 27.
Rear Adm. Kendall Card relieved Cmdr. Xavier F. Valverde following a preliminary inquiry after a recent grounding incident in the Persian Gulf. Card expressed his loss in confidence in Valverde's ability to command. No injuries or damage occurred as a result of the incident.
Capt. Mike Slotsky has assumed command of Pearl Harbor.
Valverde has been temporarily assigned to the staff of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command pending the conclusion of the formal investigation.
