NORFOLK (NNS) -- Seabee divers -- 17 in all -- from Underwater Construction Team (UCT) 1, based at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, departed July 9 for the Black Sea to take part in a multinational training exercise.

"As Underwater Construction Team 1, we're tasked to provide diving engineer expertise to our multinational partners to promote theater security and cooperation," said Chief Construction Electrician (SCW/MDV) Christopher Taylor, detachment officer in charge.

"This is vitally important to enhancing interoperability and the prevention of war in a global environment in accordance with our new maritime strategy."

The exercise, called "Seabreeze," will promote interoperability with Black Sea nations and NATO under the Partnership for Peace program.

"I'm really looking forward to working in foreign lands, training foreign divers and learning new ways of construction diving," said Steelworker 2nd Class (SCW/DV) Jesse Hamblin. "Plus, the importance of this mission gives me a deep sense of pride."

Divers from UCT-1 will train divers from the Ukraine, Macedonia, Denmark, Great Britain and Latvia on battle damage assessment and repair, U.S. diving techniques, port opening concepts and emergency diving medicine.
