SILVERDALE, Wash. (NNS) -- Sailors from USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN 730) (Gold) team were the first command to purchase the Navy's new PT uniform aboard Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor, June 30, the first day they went on sale in the Pacific Northwest.

Command Master Chief (SS) Joe Fahrney, Henry M. Jackson (Gold) chief of the boat, wanted to ensure his Sailors were ahead of the game.

"With the new PT uniforms coming out, we all had to get them anyways, and since today was the first day they went on sale, we decided to jump on that," said Fahrney. "There is a very limited supply coming to the Pacific Northwest, and I didn't want my crew to be left out."

Cmdr. Dan Arensmeyer, commanding officer of Henry M. Jackson (Gold), explained he and his crew are excited about the Navy's new PT uniform.

"By my entire crew being here, we are underscoring the emphasis of fitness and the importance of PT," said Arensmeyer. "It's more than just push ups and sit ups.

It's the long term health benefits of exercise, which is well documented through science and media. It's the Navy putting its money where its mouth is by making this gear available to us and showing us that physical fitness is really important."

Henry M. Jackson (Gold) Sailors say they look forward to donning the new PT uniform.

"I was able to try on the shorts last week, and they are really comfortable," said Missile Technician 3rd Class (SS) Thomas Fox. "I'll see how comfortable they really are when I work out in them in a couple of days."
