NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (NNS) -- Sailors assigned to Combat Systems Department aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) are equipping spaces with new televisions this July to restore the Shipboard Information Training Entertainment (SITE) system in advance of the crew move aboard.

"These installations are a major undertaking for our division and the ship," said Chief Electronics Technician (AW/SW) Ray Hamburg, who leads the effort. "The televisions will have a major impact on morale for our crew."

The aircraft carrier's new televisions will allow the SITE system to be played throughout the ship. SITE TV broadcasts movies, training videos and port briefs to all personnel aboard.

The combat systems team will install more than 900 televisions in berthing spaces, mess decks, staterooms and office spaces throughout the ship.

"It's been a lot of hard work for the division so far, but the SITE system is an essential part of the technology on the ship, and it will definitely bring some life back to the Vinson before crew move aboard," said Interior Communications Electrician 3rd Class Amanda Richardson. "Having televisions in our spaces enhances shipboard life."

Carl Vinson is currently undergoing its scheduled refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard. The RCOH is an extensive yard period that all Nimitz-class aircraft carriers go through near the mid-point of their 50-year life cycle.

During RCOH Carl Vinson's nuclear fuel will be replenished and the ship's services and infrastructure will be upgraded to make her the most state-of-the art aircraft carrier in the fleet and prepare for another 25 years or more of service.
