YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) -- The Navy Exchange (NEX) uniform center at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka began selling the Navy's new physical training (PT) uniforms July 1.
Rusti Rausch, operations manager for the Navy Exchanges in Japan, explained the NEX scheduled the distribution of uniforms to individual commands to make the process as smooth as possible.
"Today is the first day of a four-day rollout, and we decided to make things as easy as possible by scheduling commands to come in at a certain time so that we can take care of one group at a time," Rausch said.
The new uniform consists of official, Navy T-shirts and shorts with optional items such as long-sleeve T-shirts, socks and compression shorts.
"We have in excess of 3,000 pairs of shorts and even more of the T-shirts," said Rausch. "But to make sure that everybody does get a set, we are limiting everyone to just one set of the full uniform for now."
"I think that's important because it helps give the Navy unity. It's nice and bright, and I think it really spells out 'Navy,' and I think it's going to give some camaraderie among our Sailors."
