NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (NNS) -- USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Sailors are now wearing the Navy's newly-issued Physical Training Uniform (PTU) during workout sessions throughout the ship.
The first run of the new PT uniform was released to Navy personnel last April at places such as Recruit Training Command (RTC), but now stocks are available at Navy Exchange uniform stores throughout the fleet.
"I purchased my new PT gear as soon as it came out at the Navy Exchange," said Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd Class Carlos Guevara. "It's surprising how comfortable the uniform is to wear, and I'm especially impressed with the length and durability of the shorts."
The uniform consists of a gold shirt sporting reflective Navy lettering and blue shorts.
"The uniforms stand out, and I think the reflective lettering on the set makes the uniform complete while providing safety when we're exercising in the dawn or pre-dawn hours," said Guevara. "It will be great to work out as a team when every Sailor has the uniform and is sporting the colors of blue and gold."
Carl Vinson Sailors explained the new PT uniform acts a tool to build esprit de corps.
"The new PT uniform is proving to be very beneficial because it's comfortable and is becoming a source of pride," said Hospital Corpsman 1st Class (FMF/AW) Jeffrey Morrison. "I feel that once all Sailors are wearing the PT uniform, we'll experience even more unity and team building while conducting our exercise sessions."
