
BAE SYSTEMS RECEIVES $15.9 MILLION CONTRACT FROM DEFENSE LOGISTICS AGENCY FOR OUTER TACTICAL VEST COMPONENTS

PHOENIX, Arizona― BAE Systems has been awarded a $15.9 million contract from the Defense Logistics Agency for Outer Tactical Vest (OTV) components in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. Issued to the U.S. armed forces, they include groin, throat and neck protectors. The OTV, when combined with Small Arms Protective Inserts plates, provides advanced protection against mines, grenades, mortar shells, artillery fire and rifle projectiles.
"Fulfillment of this order insures that the Defense Logistics Agency's inventory of components is readily available to replace any worn or damaged OTV components already in the field," said Sean Martin, director, business development of Individual Equipment for BAE Systems. "This new award reflects the importance of having robust manufacturing capabilities to meet the sustainment needs of our men and women in uniform."
BAE Systems has manufactured more than 350,000 OTVs since the product's inception in 2003. Over 155,000 Improved Outer Tactical Vests, an advanced version of the OTV, have been manufactured by BAE Systems to date. Production for OTV components will be completed at facilities located in Alabama with deliveries scheduled for completion by June 2009.
BAE Systems employs more than 1,000 people in Alabama, with facilities in Anniston, Cordova, Geneva and Huntsville. The Geneva facility manufactures over 60,000 body armor components per month, including the Outer Tactical Vest conversion kits. The Huntsville facility is a leader in air and missile defense, joint interoperability, program management, quality assurance engineering, test and evaluation, cost analysis, and business process reengineering. The Cordova facility manufactures the155-mm Advanced Gun System magazine and the Mk 57 Vertical Launching Systems canisters for the U.S. Navy's newest class of destroyer, the DDG 1000.
